Obituary

Captain Larry Dennis Harder USN (ret.) went to be with the Lord at the age of 77 on

Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

He was the beloved husband of Joanne Harder, dear father of John Harder, dear

brother of Mike Harder (Ann), dear uncle to Adam (Kendal) Harder, Joel (Donelle)

Harder and Evan Harder, and dear great-uncle of Ruby Harder, Philece Harder and

Farrow Harder.

Larry was born August 26, 1946 to John and Evadeen “Pat” Harder and grew up in Flat

River, Missouri, graduating from Flat River High School in 1964.

Larry earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University in 1968.

Shortly after he joined the United States Navy, completed Officer Candidate School and

was commissioned as an officer and served twenty-six years until his retirement

achieving the rank of Captain in the Supply Corps. Larry was able to earn his MBA from

University of Michigan while serving in the Navy. During his career, Larry was the

Supply Officer for the commissioning of the USS John Young in 1978 and later served a

three-year (’84-’87) assignment in Naples, Italy.

Following his retirement from the Navy at Dayton, Ohio, in 1995, Larry, Joanne and

John returned to St. Louis, devoting his professional life to serving in administrative

positions including administrator at Concord Church in St. Louis where he served as

Executive Director for twelve years, then as Interim President of Brookes Bible College,

as well as providing consulting and management training services for various clients.

Services: Visitation and funeral service will be held Friday, August 30 at The Crossing

at Grant’s Trail, 2760 Union Road, St. Louis, MO 63125. Visitation is at 10 a.m. with the

service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery. After the

military service is completed, you are invited to a light lunch, visiting and lots of stories

at Concord Church, 13775 Tesson Ferry Road, St Louis, MO 63128.
